Read a number one digit at a time

International Morse represents each digit with five marks. There is no separate whole-number pattern for 2026: send 2, then 0, then 2, then 6, with letter-sized gaps between the digits. The digit zero is five dashes; it is not the three-dash pattern for the letter O.

The converter treats your input as text rather than a mathematical value. That preserves a leading zero in 007 and keeps the original order of the digits. Compare the result with your source before copying a reference number, code or date. Two numbers with the same numerical value can require different written messages.

Dates, decimals and phone-number formatting

The shared International encoder preserves supported punctuation. A decimal point becomes .-.-.-, a hyphen becomes -....-, and a literal slash becomes -..-. These are complete transmitted characters. They are different from the / displayed between code groups to indicate a space in the original message.

For example, 12.5 contains four characters: 1, 2, the decimal point, and 5. A date such as 2026-10-01 includes hyphens, while 2026 10 01 uses word gaps. Choose the formatting you want to send; this tool does not interpret the date or rewrite it into a regional convention.

A plus sign and spaces in a phone number remain meaningful input. The converter does not validate phone numbers or distinguish country codes. If you want digits only, remove punctuation intentionally before conversion rather than assume it will be discarded. Unsupported characters stay visible with a warning.

Listen and check the result

Play the whole number to hear the difference between element gaps and digit gaps. At 20 WPM a dot lasts 60 milliseconds and a dash lasts 180 milliseconds. Long runs of zeros therefore take more time to transmit than the same number of fives, although each digit still contains five marks.

The table and converter on this page use International Morse. American numeral patterns differ; do not mix a pattern from its column with International playback. Some radio contexts also use abbreviated or cut numbers. This converter uses complete numeral patterns and does not substitute letters for digits.

To decode a number back, copy its pattern into the main tool and choose Morse to Text. Keep spaces between complete digit patterns and / between words. If a numeric pattern is unknown, inspect the five marks individually instead of guessing the missing digit.

Worked examples

These patterns use International Morse. Spaces separate letters; / separates words. A slash in the original text is encoded as -..-.

Frequently asked questions

Does Morse code have numbers?

Yes! All digits 0 through 9 have 5-element Morse code sequences. Digits 1–5 progressively add dots, digits 6–9 start with dashes and end with dots, and zero is five dashes.

How do you write phone numbers or dates in Morse code?

Encode every digit and any supported punctuation. A space in the original text becomes a word break; a literal slash in a date has its own Morse pattern.
